Saturday, August 7th we paid tribute to Mikey Radziwon. A friend and inspiration to many people, we had nearly 300 people come and celebrate his life with many more wishing they could attend. Words were said, tears were shed and closure was brought to many people, including myself. Read on for pictures and a tribute video.

Mikey’s rail, this is the first feature he built 2 years ago, he also welded his name onto the side.

People left signatures and messages on the rail, they will be left there throughout the upcoming season.

Balloons were released in his honor.

The afterparty at the Yodeler in “downtown” Wrightwood went off in true Mikey fashion. Laughs and drinks flowed freely, a true to tribute. A raffle was held with a ton of snowboard gear, all proceeds benefiting Mikey’s mother.

We all loved Mikey and he will never be forgotten. This snowboard season is going to be a difficult one, a huge void has opened up and I don’t think it can ever be filled. We love you Mikey Radziwon, groom a perfect park in heaven my friend.

Rest easy my friend.

August is 2 days away and snow isn’t something most people think about right now. Loveland on the other hand is hard at work, as most resorts are getting ready for the 10/11 season. Last season, Loveland was the first resort to open in North America followed closely by Arapahoe Basin. This season will be most likely be no different, so stay tuned here and at their website. We are going to try and make it out there again this year so stay with us.

Looks like Mountain High got in trouble for the Sugar Bowl opening this past season. This is really a shame, that terrain added a whole new area to the resort, a markedly different area compared to the normal areas of the resort. I enjoyed riding back there as I’m sure anyone else would, it’s too bad it won’t be open. Here’s a “run-through” we did last season. Full press release after the break.

Wrightwood, CA – July 22, 2010: Sugar Bowl, a 35 acre area to the West of Mountain High’s West Resort, was inadvertently opened last year to skiers and snowboarders at Mountain High Resort. This region is not included Mountain High’s permitted terrain and was done so without the approval of the Angeles National Forest. Sugar Bowl will not be open for skiing and snowboarding this coming season and will be signed accordingly.

Both Mountain High and the Angeles National Forest request that users of the resort observe all posted signs, do not go out of bounds, and use the forest in a safe and healthy manner.

Pockets galore.

It’s that time of year again, no there isn’t snow on the ground yet but it’s time for new rails, and for the old rails to get a refresh. Not too much happening yet, and I still can’t “reveal” the new colors but it’s nice to know the work has begun and winter is again that much closer! Pics after the break.

Well, that’s it for the 2010-2011 (lift accessed) ski season, Mammoth closed it’s doors today after operating for over 8 months. Now, I know Mt. Hood is open as well as Blackcomb glacier but we’ll just not count those for the sake of this post. Follow through past the break and take a gander a few snapshots from last week, taken around Mammoth.
